My name is Shelby Nathanson. Welcome to my website! Here you’ll find my UX portfolio, design projects, and writing. I also like chocolate—a lot!

In my first literature courses as an undergraduate, Derrida deconstructed my worldview while Saussure structured my semantics; Freud became more than just a slip. Having fallen in love with the written word and its ability to both inspire and inform, I aspire to contribute to the industry that cultivated such passion for language and meaning in my childhood.
I earned a BA in English Literature from the University of Central Florida, and an MA in Publishing + Writing from Emerson College. This program has taught me about each step of the publishing process—from acquisitions to design to publicity—within print and digital media, and adapting to the industry’s disrupted landscape. Tutoring writing at universities and working for various journals have molded me into a critical reader of my and other writers’ works, while writing for magazines and newspapers has honed a perspective of the efficacy of form and content. As managing editor of Emerson’s literary journal Redivider, I was responsible for overseeing the issue’s production schedule, managing finances, and communicating with stakeholders. Collaborative project management in this capacity, paired with various internships, has fueled a passion for this industry—for creating and curating multimedia narratives that inform, inspire, challenge, and delight.
